Is It Worth The Upgrade?
Hallo my first post here..so i hope i dont get flamed
Im planning to upgrade from my 2.4Ghz Intel Prescott / P4GeMX MBoard / Gforce FX5200
ive got a choice of Amd 64 X2 4000+/4200+ or 4800+
with a Asus M2N MX Motherboard / 1 Gb Ram
im basically doing it to replay old games that i couldnt play before..quake4/stalker/farcry at high or medium res. and i also work on 3dsMax.
My question is , is it worth the upgrade to the amd? with the gforce motherboard?
and which of the 3 series of amd processors 4000/4200/4800 would be a better choice.. im on a really tight budget.
cheers !

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
Thanks a lot guys!
Well the budget is inside 10K, thats hardly even a budget, but i gotta stick to it.
im sure the upgrade would be worth it, i read the guide to upgrading(thanks cheeta)
Im just confused which processor i should go for in the AMD series.
also would i require another gfx card to play most of the games? considering the asus mn2mx mb has a nvidia chipset?
how good is this motherboad anyway?
thanks & happy independence day!

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
M2N-MX has Geforce 6100 graphic controller, good enough for low-end gaming but an addition of gfx card would certainly help. As for proccy get X2 3600+ and try getting 2gb ram for now.
Later you could get a gfx card.

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
10k so,
AMD X2 3600 + Rs. 2700/- + TAX
2 GB RAM (DDR-II 667 MHz Transcend) would be Rs. 3800/- + TAX
So left 3280, u can manage one K9AGM2 (AMD 690V/ATI x1200) or yeah one 6150 can come to under budget !!!
both on board will be good for low settings game.. how ever tell u one thing game like Spider Man 3 failed to run at 690G or nvidia 6150 onboard
but then u have option like this one... 8400 GS

Im not sure if 3600 is avilable here bro, the dealer just gave me a choice of 4000/4200/4800 + mb = 6950/7300/9000 Rs.
im not looking for a long term solution, just 8mths to 1yr max, so i dont want to spend much.
im also planning to get a XFX 7300 gfx card, not sure how good it is, but it kinda fits my budget..

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
Mate, that New X2 Range 3600 with 1MB is really cool procy for Budget PC... really not a huge difference with Higher ones at all, to me would be waste of money with ur budget...
and forget 7300, consider the 8400 GS i wrote

Budyy..you can happyly play all the games you mentioned with your current CPU and mobo.Just upgrade ur GFX card to 7600 GS and get some RAM !
As you have a 5200 previously I take you as a Casual gamer and the quality you gonna get with 7600 should make you happy !
------------------------------
But If you rea;;y wanna update here is my suggestion for you !
1.AMD X2 4000+ =3150/-
2.ASUS M2NPV MX = 4300 /-
or,
Gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2 = 2600/-
or,
MSI K9AGM2 = 2800/-
3.1GB DDR2 Kingston = 1800/-
4.As Choto Cheeta Mentioned forget 7 series and get 8400 or 8500 whichever fits in your budget !

Can you guys also recommend a intel processor+mb at around the same price of the amd x2 4000+MB ?
And which one would be a good processor for gaming/animation software?

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
Intel Certainly have processor to take on Low Budget AMD X2's...
E2140 @ Rs. 2800/- + TAX (Kolkata...) its the New Dual Core range of Intel built on Core Technology, very very good processors and highly overclockable on Stock, reports suggests that u can archive 85% to 100% OC on stock Intel Cooling !!!!
but the un-like AMD its really damn hard to find good Motherboards for Intel... Lowest Would be ASUS P5B-MX (Intel 946 based) Rs. 2800/- + TAX thought it will allow u to OC, but not good for high end overclocking needs , and without OC that E2140 isnt that good while compareing with X2 4400 type processors... !!!
so if intel,
E2140 @ Rs. 2800/- + TAX
ASUS P5B-MX @ Rs. 2800/- + TAX (Chipset 946 / GMA x3000)

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
For ur Budget ( 10k) I would suggest Sticking with AMD, 3600 I would vote for as that will allow some more RAMs and a better Motherboard with good onboard for now with upgradibility to add better card later on...
and yup any AMD procy are good Overclocker never the less X2 are for sure... but these new Core Procy from Intel are really give AMDs a hard time...

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
the 3600 isnt avilable here due to a shortage of cpus, only 4000 :S
whats your opinion on that? is it a dual core cpu?

They are not even close the Pentium D Processors, read more on them,
There are 2 Desktop models of these E2140 and E2160 running at 1.6 GHz and 1.8 Ghz... !!!

It semms 3600s are out of market !!!! So saving those 500-600 Rs will be harder now ! Better go with 3800/4000

Ok..Wil do that !
But it seems that you've already used them.So how would you rate them aginst x2 lineup ??
Well it is in fact stripped downed conroes...very smart move from intel !
I've previously ignored this e2xx series..just thought that it just the pentium D with another name !!!!
Good one ! I must say

Processor is simply great... really a great compition for AMD in Budget system.... but see its just not the processor you buy, its the system u buy, so there AMD is still the best becaue you can get a great motherboard with X2 range in very low price...
So, over all still for Budget system its AMD which wins...

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade?
If you are with short budget and looking for price to performance ratio with relatively good upgrade option, then go for AMD.
Intel proccy are sure getting cheaper, but those cheap mobo's doesn't really compliment to bring out the full potential of the proccy (overclocking ).
So, for a budget of 10K stick to an AMD based system.
