If you are having 4GB of ram, then Vista x86 will show it as 3.5GB although you can correct it by following something pointed out by choto_cheeta.
But if you have 64bit Vista then it will show it as 4GB only.

If you have anything less than 4GB (Like 2GB, 1GB, even 3GB) then go for x86 Vista as there are not many softwares out for Vista x64.

yup, many times it happens due to malfunction of the PAE and 3GB switch...

For more info on the PAE and 3GB Switch read here, http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...AE/PAEdrv.mspx

Agree, when u plan to run any OS with 4 GB RAM and a dedicated GRFX card, its wise to opt for a 64bit OS as for better memory management !!!

Sorry for the Comment... but AMD X is not a 64bit processsor ???

Since when and where is the source of this info ?? as author is using one X 4400 which is a native 64bit procy compare to Intels Extended 64bit support of any EM64T Processors

with X2 4400 he will be able to run x64 version of OS for sure... !!!!

And ?????

Can u please quote the Part which I am suppose to read in that link ??

read here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64 and here, http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...8_9484,00.html that all AMD Athlon 64 processors are 64 bit procy with native support... AMD Athlon 64 was the 1st in line and X2 is its successor !!!!

Amd X2 series is always 64 bit.. there is no only 32 bit proccy from AMD now.. after AMD 64 series even Semprons are also 64 bit supported.. so there is no question of only a 32bit supported Proccy..

Yes slugger correct your knowledge obout X2...
All AMD processor, which are of X2 series are native 64 Bit.
Look here you will know that
http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...s/a64-x2-4200/

The thread poster doesn't mentioned this that its 64 bit proccy clearly because its very obvious that his proccy is 64 bit.
Got it...
