Thumbs up Short Review:Seventeam ST-500BKP Power Supply

Yesterday i received my Parcel which included goodies like, Seventeam ST-500BKP, ST-600EAD and Chieftec LBX Chassis

Since the 500 is for a friend, whose board+cpu i am testing currently, i thought why not, test the 500 first, this will give me a general idea of what to expect from the 600W.

This is the first time i am using a Seventeam PSU, although i have heard a lot of good things about them, haven't had the pleasure of experiencing one before.

Anyways let's start with the pictures, shall we

The bundle is nothing exciting and doesnt come with any goodies like in branded PSUs [Read: Popular brands amongst domestic users] Seventeam is more of a Server PSU maker rather than an enthusiast like Silverstone, OCZ, PC Power & Cooling and so on.
From the look of it, the PSU looks bland, no fancy mirror finish, black paint, chrome finish, UV LED Fans , nothing. It comes with a simple 120mm fan to cool things inside.
The 24 Pin ATX cable is only sleeved and all others are bare. The build quality is amazing, the wires used are also of very high quality.
From the outer looks, it pretty much impressed me.
Outer looks dont matter much, do they ?
Let's get down to testing then.
As it was pretty late at night, i did a few runs with the following setup. More detailed testing will follow soon.

Test Bed :
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 [B3 stepping]
XFX 650i Ultra Motherboard
Corsair Value Select 1GB x 2 DDR2 667 Memory
Hitachi 250GB SATA Hard Drive
BenQ DW 1640
Seventeam ST-500BKP PSU
Nvidia Geforce 6600GT / ATI Radeon HD2900 XT

A few results,

It can be seen from the results above that the PSU easily handled Quad Core @ 3.4GHz and 2900XT @ 850/1150. Both these monsters draw a LOT of power.
The fact that the PSU held these two monsters throught the 3DMark 2006 run, speaks a lot about this PSU. It might not look very aggressive and doesnt boast of any fancy features but i can definitely say this is one SOLID PSU. It Oozes with quality. With a price point of 3.7-3.9k it has excellent VFM too.
A great product from Seventeam.

Stay Tuned for detail testing of the PSU

Amey,
Team THL
