Asus laptops in general are nice with good build quality. They offer 2-year warranty, which is kinda very nice. If you have a Asus notebook service center in your city, then expect quality service. Indian pricing for Asus notebooks has always been on the higher side. Considering you're getting it as a gift, enjoy

thanks.. it is imported from Hong Kong and i was freaked out as i did not know a single thing abt it.

now i get to know that it is 512MB ram, 80gb hard disk. not sure abut the precessor yet. (i doubt it will be a core2duo wih the given budget).. if there any site where i can search for ASUS laptops of this configuration and i might stuble upon my model ???

Nope. There would be ten models with the same specs! I have never seen an Asus laptop with just 512MB RAM in the last 12 months or so. Don't be worried about it. It's a nice thing infact. Trash the bundled RAM. Get 2x1GB DDR2 667MHz laptop memory sticks (Around 2k per piece) and you've got an extreme laptop
