Post USB entension cable

i hav bought an usb entension cable for Rs.30... my system detects it and balloon msg appears that a " Usb Device found " and then when i connect a pen drive... it says unknown device found & pen drive is not detected... should i install some driver for usb entension cable ?? my pen drive works fine when i connect it directly without using entension cable... cable is also new and their is no fault in the calbe.... but how do i get it work ??

2.) in case if the usb entension cable is working.... will it give a speed of USB 2.0 ??? if no then how to get that speed in usb entension cable. ??

how long is ur cable?? .. if its somewhere near 5m long it probably wont work!!
I think it'll give speeds little less than USB 2.0 speeds, depending on the make!!

USB Extension Cables don't get "detected" on their own when connected to the computer. You have to connect a device at the other end. MAybe, your Pendrive has got some problem with the cable.

I have connected 4 such cables each of length 2 metre end to end to make it a 8m long cable and connected a webcam to the other end, so that I can use it like a video camera. And there is no problem in the working of the webcam. Nor any slow transfer speeds.
Maybe you should connect it to different ports on the backside and see.

Post Re: USB entension cable

now i tested with my usb keyboard seems to be working fine with the cable except for d kingston data traveler 2.0 pen drive.... i checked on the other comp also, even their its showing the same error "unknown device" but pen drive has no problem when connected directly. seems a little strange prob at this end.

@ lucky star, wats d speed ur getting for web cam (usb 2.0) ?? since ur cable is too long.

its just dat d keyboards power requirement is lesser dan dat of a flash drives

so d reduced power dat is supplied by d exrended usb cablu is enuf 2 run d keyboard but not d flash drive

Well, I don't know the exact speeds. But the webcam works the same way when I connected it directly to the computer without any cables.
No lags in the video.

Once I had connected my PD to it. and there was no deterioration in transfer speeds.
