power button not working

when i tried to switch off power when my applications were not responding or when my xp stuck in between,no response is got.although restart button is working well.also sometimes my computer takes a very long tme time to shut down.
pls help.

I think the power button broke its connection with the motherboard. Try and open the cabinet and see if the long plastic arm that connects the power button to the motherboard has not lost its contact.

hold it for more than 8 secs.. it shud go off..
it wudnt "shut down" wen ur apps dont respond..
the restart button will work netime u press it..
