Unhappy HELP...Extra HDD cant be connected...


I Have a problem...

I have a win xp mce pc(p4 1.6,512,kob 845 mobo).

I have 3 hdd
1.samasung 80 gb (pri master)
2.maxtor 40 gb (2 nos)(sec master one at a time)

but i recently reinstalled my pc with same os and i connected
one of m,y maxtors as usual.at first it was fine but then suddenly
the pc hdd L.E.D was constanlty on and my pc freezed.i removed the
maxtor hdd and turned my pc on (this time with only my master hdd)
and everything was fine.then i connected my other maxtor as sec master
and the same happened.

can u tell me why???the bios detects both hdd with SMART enabled..

Those hdd contains my imp files...

HELP ME.

check(replace) the data cable.

I don't like Maxtor for that reason (Thats why I'm a seagate guy) had a maxtor do the same thing to me a few years ago plus it made funny(not ha ha funny) sounds. saw it in BIOS but XP had hard time reading it sometimes. some maxtor 40BGs were not that good, thats what I had and I see thats what you have. I would recommend buying a different HDD and transferring those files.
jumpers on drives are set correctly?

Dont connect you maxtor HDD as sec master instead connect it as primary slave.....i.e on the same cable your samsung is, but make sure you remove all jumpers from the maxtor HDD(which makes its a slave).......this should work......

i tried and it worked.....

but for some days...

now xp showed BSOD and say some wrong with partmgr.sys

help me....

This is a different problem alltogether. partmgr.sys AFAIK is the native Windows partition manager file that affects partitions so if it is corrupted your computer may not be able to read the boot partition. It seems there is little you can do except to format and repartition, however if the same happenes while reinstalling xp, run a surface scan for bad sectors.......
If there are Bad Sectors.......time to go for some HDD shopping......

i think u got any kind of msg on black screen of monitor..

U can try one thing.. connect ur both hard disk.. start ur PC..Go to ur Bios by clicking del key while starting..than go to Boot > Hard Disk Drive .. than select 1st drive that one on which th OS is installed ie. the samsung drive.. & select 2nd drive the rest one ie. Maxtor drive...
