Default Protection for LAN card from cable internet?

Dear friends,

Last week a tragedy occured at my place.. I lost my Intel 965RY MB (bot in Nov'06) & my keyboard because of power supply which came from SIFY cable net. SIFY cable was connected to my onboard LAN card when this happend.
I was lucky there was no harm to other parts (that's my guess... need to confirm properly).

I want know from you experts if there is any 100% protection which i can have from these dangerous CABLES.... I heard about LAN Proecter which'll have some kinda fuse or no idea which I bought for around 150/- rs.

I would appreciate if some one can suggest me if that's all i need to do or i can go for still much better protection system...

Thanks & Regards
Dev

Default Re: Protection for LAN card from cable internet?

Most of the new UPSs available have a lan protection facility. The cable first plugs in to ur ups and then from the ups to lan card.
