Exclamation Plz help - Computer needs power!!

My comp won't start for the last few days. When I switch on my UPS, everything is fine; the lights on the keyboard blink once, and like that. But the moment I press the power button on my cabinet to start my machine, the power comes and Immediately goes off!! The LEDs (there are two - Green for power & Red for hard disk) glow and immediately shut down. The fans inside start to run & immediately lose power and come to a stop!!
Oh, and one more thing - if I press the power button for any more times, whatever activity mentioned above, stops. No activity this time at all!! BUT, if I keep pressing the power button for 11-12 seconds (which I sometimes use to shut down the machine in case it hangs - I'm told that's the purpose for pressing it for a long time) and then again press the power button normally to start, the power comes and goes out, just as I described in the above para.

People Plzz help me; I can't seem to find a way out!!

Can be a faulty PSU... Les make sure the rest of the home work's done prior to dat...

Replug all d Power cables frm d PSU.... Check d i/p cables frm the cabby dat plugs to ur mobo... Replug dat as well... Re-insert RAM modules.. Make sure ur VGA card's seated prop...

Now restart...

If it does d same thing... Check ur system with ur friends PSU..

If its a faulty PSU causin u a problem, invest in a good one...

It could also be your BIOS/CMOS battery is dead (little watch battery) need more specs on your computer and what you intend on using it for to determine a good PSU, try a PSU calculator here is an example of one http://files.pcapex.com/details.php?file=19 this may help wyou with what you may need.

Well mine is an old machine - Intel P4 1.7 GHz processor, Mercury KOB 845G NDS Mx mobo, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB Seagate HDD, 1 DVD-CDRW combo drive. That's it. I use it mainly for some programming, office applications, and a few games (not hardcore ones; I have onboard graphics so not much memory).

What rating (in volts) should this battery have(there's nothin written on top of it)? Its running for 2 years now, I don't think it is down; will check it though.

And again, if I have to change my SMPS, which brand do I go for? And what rating??

I was reading in this forum that today's cabinets come with PSUs, mostly 450 W, bundled with them. Changing the cabinet is exactly what I am planning to do immediately. So, which cabinet - I mean, which brand - should I go for? I need an ATX form-factor cabinet, and with my config given above, will the bundled (if any) SMPS be enough??
