Default How much ram is okay?

i did the mistake of buying the older gen ddr ram system with socket 478 while buying a pc........ cuz that was cheaper at the time when ddr2 and lga 775 had just come.....

my pc specs are

ECS p4m800m mobo
256 mb ddr 33 ram
intel celeron 2.26 gig processor
seagate 80 gb hd
samsung combo drive

my mobo has one free slot and can accomodate total of 2 gb ram

i plan to buy a 1gb ddr 400 stick
i'll remove the 256 mb i have cuz i dont think it'll b ablt to catch up wid 400 mhz speed

but do i need to do so?

And please tell me where can i get 1 gb ddr 400 for cheap.....
i dont have any idea of how much that will cost......

2 Gig DDR2 667 mhz ram can now be had for ~3.5k these days . what more can you ask .

n with two of these(i.e 2x 1 GB 667 mhz) modules in dual channel mode , ur procy fsb might as well be the bottleneck .

i suppose 400mhz ram are the only available in market. i see no chance of getting a 266mhz ddr sdram. get a 400mhz stick. but it'll run only at 333 mhz as thats the max ram speed this chipset supports on s478 platform.

Not really 4GB. Vista works fine on 2GB. Doomed to Death LOL why...becauase of 2GB RAM....remember most of their customers are in Developed Counties like US and 2GB is quite affordable, Even in India 2GB Ram is 3000 which is not that expensive considering you own a OS for 10000+

Vista Runs fine with 1GB
Vista with resource hungry Apps and Multi Tasking with them, would need 2GB
Running too many Virtualization products will need 2 GB + RAM and for that in some case 16GB wont be enough

Doomed to death not for Ram I know that Ram prices have fallen like cards. but Release of Vista have motivated people to shift the platform to Open Source .. After al what Vista offer nothing except that crappy Aero and 3d which Apple executive says that codes being cheated from Leapord Eh.. How insane M$ is "Giving old wine in new bottle" to impress noobs willl never let them prosper is that they are pretty known to thats why they started working in a new project called "Vienna"

Well, Vista is fine for me. The reason people are shifting to Open Source is that they too are developing at fast pace and now are feature rich something which they lacked earlier. What you expetced from Vista and you see it missing ??

As for Microsoft Releasing Vienna - yes they would. Vista is not end of their Windows Product Line. Making it so early - Development works starts early. Vista was also announced to be released soon after XP but Vista Projetc took too long, can happen to Vienna aswell

go for 1GB DDR 400MHz RAM. your motherboard supports DDR 400MHz but doesn't support DDR2 RAM. a new kingston 1GB stick would cost u ~3200/- or you can by a used one with warranty for 2000 bucks.

No way ! Vista runs perfectly with 1GB , 2GB if you're gaming or heavy multitasking .

You have no Idea what Vista has to offer . It doesn't show on the outside but Vista's core is Rewritten . There's a completely new driver model . there's new and better API's for speech recognition , handwriting recognition , D game programming , Multimedia and almost nything u can think of . Also thre's .NET 3.0 Framework n with Windows Presentation Foundatoin , it's a boon for developers to make a compelling user interface .

Vista is mainly a better and easier platform for developers to build application .
