Default Problem in Harddisk,Somebody please help!!!

Hello,

I purchased a new PC with the following configuration,

pentium D 2.8ghz,
1GB 667 RAM
945 Mobo
160 Gb SATA harddisk(seagate)

and used my old components like

samsung 40 gb pata drive and
samsun DVD writer

The configuration worked flawlessly for about a month,Then I had problems with my seagate harddisk. There were bad sectors in the drive(but my old harddisk was good after 3.5 years!!).

I checked for any problems and returned the hardisk to the seagate center and they replaced it with a Certified repaired harddisk.

But all of a sudden after just 2-3 days of usage the new harddisk had bad sectors.I do not know what the problem is and checked the sata controller with my friends WD harddisk. It seemd to work well.

Can any of you tell me what can be the problem.

Is there any conflict in using my old PATA and new SATA harddisk.

Also will Seagate replace this drive again for me......

thanks
Anand

Listen usually such pata/sata conflicts shudn arise...

Since it has become faulty again, ask them to replace the drive... Be strong in dat point, els they mite repair it again...

Check the SMPS as well. Cos HDDs repeatedly getting bad sectors are quite uncommon.

And, yes. This time, make sure the HDD is replaced and not repaired.

Hi guys thank you for your reply,Can any of you suggest how I should check for smps problems and is there any Smps which has a rating of more than 400 watts.Because

I have

two harddisks,
1 DVD writer,
motherboard with the above configuration and a system fan,

So maybe the wattage is high for the above configuration.

And....The bad sector I used seatools to do a Long DST, and yes My Mobo doesn't support 667 only 553.I have replaced the memory stick,do you think that should cause a problem?????

Since you say that the RAM was not supported by your mobo, that might have possibly be the problem.

I remember, when I had bought a new HDD and RAM for my old P-III around 4 yrs ago.... The RAM was problematic and I used to get all kinds of error messages.

Do a Disk Check after replacing the RAM and check for the HDD.

400W SMPS is enough for the h/w that u have. But, u can always go for a 500W one....

Check ur Power supply cables. that's main problem. most of the harddisks get damaged because of this. often if u often transport ur HDD, It may be also the cause of that. So good luck brother.
