Why IC Names are scratched off or blurred ?

Hello,
I've noticed that in many devices the IC names are scratched off or blurred into an unreadable way.Why is it so?
Do they want to prevent these IC Names to be known to public-or experts getting the idea of the circuit,what it does..Uff..someone there who knows..?

Yes. They are erased for the same reason. It's very easy to copy PCB layout. Atleast by erasing the IC name, manufacturer tries his best to avoid copy of the circuitry.

Yes, for the same thing. Also in case of repairs, others will find it difficult to replace the component even when found damaged.
