Plz give info about
Laptop brand & model and the brand of media used.the brand used is very important . coz only good & branded media allow you to write at rated speeds.

also is your laptop under warranty ? The reason is if the problem could be solved by a firmware upgrade and if it leads to a void of warranty , you are better off going to the auth service centre

Laptop Brand: Compaq Presario M2000
Media Brand: mmm... this is just those CDs we get @ 7 Rs per piece... (is tht the problem???) i have used this kinda CDs before also but never faced such a problem.

and my laptops warranty is over... how much will it cost if i upgrade?

Problem seems to be with Media. As Writer decides the MAX speed. Try with another Quality Media like Moserbear or Sony

Well i use HP Compaq Pressario V2000 series. I had and currently have the same problem with my combo. The last time i took it to the autorised centre and they replaced the drive. This time around i am having the same problem and i will be taking my notebook to the centre again.

I don't think there is anything else you can do. Also, if your warrenty has not run out or u have Care Pack, just visit your nearest service centre. Thats the best soln. Don't fiddle around.

Have you checked the drive on ur friends PC??Chances may be there ..that ur drive is not is good conditions.

my poor drive... it used to write so many data on my cds... and didnt even said a word.. it did watever i asked it to do... it read film dvds for dozens of hours alltogether... it read even scratched disks... o god i was so cruel to it... i forced it to read scratched dvds and cds... But now its no more... ... however it still reads cds and dvds but when it comes to writing... it gives up... i m so sad...
