seeing about 17 inch normal TFT & 17 Widescren TFT, 19 inch normal TFT & 19 Widescren TFT monitors. 17 inch normal tft supports 1280*1024 resolution and 19 inch normal tft supports same 1280*1024 resolution. Will not be text seen tiny on 17 inch TFT? For 19 inch tfts I think text will be seen a bit larger on that. Guys get me out of this dillema I have a Nvidia Geforce Fx 5200 GFX card on my board. Model is Gigabyte GV-N52128DS. According to the manual this GFX card doesn't supports 1440*900 resolution ie that resolution isn't listed in the supported resolution list of the manual. Now I wanted know If I buy a widescreen TFT will it work perfectly with my GFX card I mean if you guys have really seen a widescreen monitor which resolution is 1440*900 working working flawlessly on a 5200 AGP GFX card then please inform in here.

Your Card supports a max resolution of 1024*768 ... So, I guess , a widescreen TFT won't work for you..

^ Oh no. he can get a custom resolution with his graphic card using powerstrip.
I can get that resolution even with a riva tnt2, but my CRT doesn't do more than 1152x768@60hz\32bit. Dunno, i may be mistaken if this doesn't apply to LCDs but IMHO monitor resolution should be your priority, esp. since graphic cards are more liable to be upgraded,

^agreed.
if the monitor can do 1440x900 @ atleast 72 hz, it will be bearable. Surely 5200 geforce fx can do that. If it can't, it is just a bottleneck. You shouldnt buy a lower res monitor bcoz of your graphic card !!!! 1440x900 is a non native resolution for older graphic cards when widescreen were not as popular. All new drivers by NVIDIA (5.xx) allow you to make a customized profile for your monitor via the ntuner and desktop manager and you can overrride default 4:3 resolutions and refresh rates. To get the rexolution you want, you'll have 2 hit and try. I would strongly recommend you to try out the lcd b4 buying too to checkout dead pixels, blacks, contrast etc.,

My card supports a maximum resolution of 2048*1536 @85 Hz according to the manual. But 1440*900 isn't listed on their

Don't worry. it will do 1440x900 fine.
Try rivatuner or powerstrip or the default way as below: Right click desktop > properties > settings > Click advanced > click the tab with the name of your graphic card (you should be using drivers from NVIDIA and not the default windows ones to get this tab, i am assuming you are using windows) > click refresh rate overrides > make your own custom resolution say 1440x900 60 Hz. Apply the settings. check the resolution availability in your desktop settings. Steadily try different refresh rate first in blocks of 5, then 1 to get the maximum bang out of your card. For this to work, your monitor should support the resolution. Else, it will throw a sync error/ blank screen. Note down the last resolution. If Esc button does not get you out of the error screen, reboot in vga mode, after pressing F8 for safe mode options and set the highest refresh rate which did not show any error. Since you graphic card can do 85 hz even at 2048x1536, you can safely use it at any resolution below the corresponding digits eg anything<2048 x anything<1536 @ 85 Hz. Phew. Thats enough. Note. this should work to the best of my knowledge. Don't blame me if it doesn't To err on the safe side, ask some nearby computerwallah to install the lcd at your home. Try this in his presence. If it works, problem solved, else ask him to take the lcd back. Make sure you check for dead pixels on the lcd too. They dont come under warranty. best of luck for your purchase.

U dont need powerstrip or rivatuner.
all nvidia (cards) drivers support custom resolution (if not update ur driver) & they detect the monitor resolution automatically & only then u will see 1440x900 listed. For lcd u don't need higher refresh rate than 60 as it does not flicker.

However, I think that as the screen size plummets, the effective maximum resolution dips.... Will have to check it though..

I just outlined the procedure if somehow his resolution is not detected, as with older detonator drivers.

To Eliminate the issue of widescreen supported graphics chips- look at here:
http://ap.viewsonic.com/in/kbase/article.php?id=8 But will text be seen perfectly readable on a 19 inch widescreen tft (1440*900) res with windows default 96 dpi. will text be seen perfectly readable on a 17 inch tft (1280*1024) res with windows default 96 dpi.
