Default HDD not detecting

hi have a Hitachi Deskstar HDS728080PLAT20 7200rpm hard drive which has been in use for 1.5 yrs. recently i detached it and tried to attach it to another system [in another city] as a slave [tried both primary and secondary channels] but it did not get detected. after some time the primary hard drive [same model] on the host system also refused detection. tried attaching it onto a third system but that did not work either. can anyone suggest a possible diagnosis or a solution?

IMO, the drive has gone bad. Thats because, it couldn't be detected on 3 running systems. I guess, sending it for repairs is the only way out. But all the data might be lost forever. If other members have any other suggestion, they are more than welcome.
