Find a little hole on Processor
Recently I find a systems not booting, after checking every thing I justtryed to refix the Processor - while removing the Processor from the hit sink I saw a little hole at the corner on top of the processor, I reported to Intel & after few exchange of info they asked to send the processor for a replacement, - now today I found another one with same problem & I found a same size; same place hole on this processor also.
Processor - Intel Pentum 4 (2.4GHz); Mobo - Intel D865GV
Anybody can please suggest a possible reson for this hole -
I am going to report again but afraid they might not give me a replacement for same problem (physical damage)
Your suggestions are important to me - pls reply
Thanks

Re: Find a little hole on Processor
It means the first one (with hole) you get replaced from Intel and now the Replaced one also face the same problem?
If yes, i think you should check your MOBO, Heatsink. Did all other Device works perfectly? if not try to replaced SMPS.
If all OK, than I think it's problem with MOBO.
I'm not expert so leave it if I'm wrong.

Re: Find a little hole on Processor
that's just a hole in IHS, the processor is not even anywhere near the hole, if it's working fine, u need not worry about anything, though i will suggest you to check your temperatures. and take little care nothing conducting goes in there, that's all

I have seen two such holes on 2 different processors. As the processors were working fine, I did not find it intresting to report anywhere. Still using those processors, over 6 months since i notices. Both the processors were intel 3.0 ghz. It is very very clean [machined] hole you can not expect of anything wrong.

Re: Find a little hole on Processor
Did you check Capacitors on MOBO? Did you seen any leakage over the top/side/bottom of any capacitors?
Non booting - it may problem with PSU - Which PSU you have? Give FULL system config. ?
There is Shantanu of this forum PM him and show this thread.

Re: Find a little hole on Processor
@ITTechPerson since ur pc is not booting, first check ur psu as 'Stick' suggested, then clean the ram module and slot.
also remove all add-in cards and try to boot the pc.

Re: Find a little hole on Processor
The surface of a processor is normally very smooth and it has to be so for maximum thermal conductivity.
But see the picture in the link given by "ITTechPerson" and the so called processor surface is by no means smooth.
Or is it something else?

Re: Find a little hole on Processor
^^^ the surface is not smooth cuz the surface is covered with thermal paste.
