Will Vista work on a Celeron?

Our office machine has got a Celeron 2.4Ghz processor (not sure if its the "D" or not) on an Intel 845 board (again, not sure about the specifics but I think its the default Intel original 845G board).

I want to run Vista on it, only to use it for normal office applications like email, word processing and internet. Will it run fast enough? I don't need Aero or any of its visual effects. It currently has 256MB RAM, but I can upgrade it to 768 (will 512 be enough?).
