Win XP SP-II Installation Problem
Dear Friends,
I need your help, please help me. My problem is as under :
I have a PCS system with the following configuration:
1. Intel P-4 2.40 GHz CPU
2. RAM = 256MB + 128 MB
3. Intel 845G Chipset Motherboard
4. 40 GB Hard Disk
5. OS = MS Windows XP Pro (Version 5.1.2600 Build 2600)
My problem is whenever I try to ungrade/new installation of Windows XP Pro SP-II, the installation/upgradation fail after copying all installation files to the system. when I restart the system Windows XP setup starts again, Win XP LOGO appears in the screen as usual, but the system hangs up without any msg. I replaced the RAM with only 256 MB or 128 MB one in one stage, but all the experiment failed. Presently my system is running with Xp Pro which is running without any problem. But the programme which are XP SP-II compiatable cannot be loaded.
I shall be glad and gratefull if anybody of the forum help me to solve my problem.
SK Ghosh.

Re: Win XP SP-II Installation Problem
Strange problem have you checked with different XP cd .
and is your hardrive ok..
clean up your whole system get new XP cd and then try..
most of these type of problems are associated with Ram but u
r saying RAM modules are ok ..check again ..and report here..

Re: Win XP SP-II Installation Problem
just try to Repartition your DRIVE and update the MBR... for more info:
download the tool: burn it to a CD and boot from it.. and then repartition your HDD and update the MBR..

Re: Win XP SP-II Installation Problem
Let me tell you in brief the History of My Error
My PC Config is
Intel PIII 800 Mhz, any 815chipset board, 2 x 128MB SD RAM, 40GB HDD, CD-RW, 15" Samsung etc.
I was running XP_SP2 from last 1 year
but suddenly their was some error came & my PC started restarting in every 10min
So i Formatted it & tried to reinstall
But at the Process of Reinstall when their was around 9-10 min remaining the PC hangs or Freezes or stop responding (whatever you say)
No i deleted all the data repartitioned & again tried to do so
Same thing happen
Now I bought 1 6GB hdd from my friend which has win98 pre installed that was running fine
So I tried to install Win98 on my 40GB HDD, it installed sucessfully again my PC hangs & restarts automatically in less than 10-20 min of working
Now what can i do
I thought the Prob is in HDD
so i Installed WinXP on that 6GB HDD
but strange
at the time of installation again it freezes when their is 9 min remaining
I tried to remove 1 ram & run on only 128 but that too gives the same error
Now can someone identify whts the error..................?

Re: Win XP SP-II Installation Problem
I have another system in my home Zenith PC with a config celeron 850 mzh processor, 128 mb RAM sis 630 mb with 20 gb HDD, where I have duel booting system with win98 and xp sp-2, where both the system runs fine except slow performance. Originally the system was preloaded with WIn 98 SE. After formating the HDD I was tried for new installation of WIn XP sp-2
with OEM CD but it was failed. After that I have installed win XP-pro and which is running fine. I think there is any BIOS problem in my system, which is
not suported WIN XP SP-2. (Phonix award BIOS ver 6.00PG dt 14/04/2004). I shall be glad if any body help me how to upgrade the BIOS.

Re: Win XP SP-II Installation Problem
Bumping up the old thread on request on author,
I would suggest one thing, try Integrating the Windows XP SP2 in the Installation disk, then install a Fresh Copy of Windows !!!!
To do so, u may follow this guide, or this one or this one, just google as there are many available ...
or u may use a software called n-lite, http://www.nliteos.com/

Re: Win XP SP-II Installation Problem
In ur Case, I suggested use Nlite only to Intergrate Windows XP SP2 in the Windows Installation DISK
so when u install Windows XP u install it at SP2 stage
but N-Lite can do lot more than this, Like, Intergrate any available Windows update, Drivers, and even Softwares

Let me Tell you complete Details
Config is
Intel PIII 800Mhz, Onboard Video & Sound, 256MB SD RAM (128 x 2), 40GB HDD, 15" Monitor etc.
Was running WinXP_SP2 fine from last 1 year
but suddenly it started freezing & restarting in some time
the time period was decreasing day by day & at one day it started restarting in every 1-2 min, Some time it work fine but not everytime
So i tried to format MY PC
I removed all the Data, made partitioned & tried to install fresh copy of WinXP
but it freezes when 9min remaining of installation
So I tried removed 1 RAM module (but both ram are fine)
Now I changed its battery
It SMPS,
all are fine
Now i tried to install Win98 on its
Win98 installed but freezes in 1-2 min
I thought Harrdisk has some problem
So Now I bought 1 HDD of my friend of size 6.4GB which preinstalled Win98
I attached that & ran my PC
PC ran fine for more than 4-5 hrs
also I can play Road Rash game in that
So i tried to install WinXP on that 6.4 GB hdd but installtion again fails
Now only Processor & Motherboard is not tested rest all are fine
But if their is any problem in MOBO or Proc that how it can run Win98 fine on 6.4GB HDD
I am very much confused what to do now
Do you have any idea..............?

My system runs fine with Win98se/Win Xp pro without Service Pack.
As per your advice yestarday I intregated the the WinXp with Win Xp SP2 and tried to install the same, but it also failed. subsequenty I have to fresh install again with the Win Xp without SP. From yestarday I have doing this job to reinstalling all the programmes. Now I think it is impossible to install SP2 in my system.

I think you should try to fresh install windows 2k (with sp 4 if available). Then insert windows xp sp2 and try to upgrade from windows 2k sp4.

Re: Win XP SP-II Installation Problem
Bumping up the old thread as the Problem solved.
Some of our forum member know about this thread. where they tried to solve my problem as well as I also contacted Motherboard Mfg. MSI to solve my problem, but the problem was not solved.
Yesterday I got solved the problem as under:
1. I updated the BIOS through MSI's live update.
2. I tried to install XP SP-2 on the existing HDD (Segate 80 GB 7200.10 RPM)
but it is hanged up during system chekup.
3. I removed that HDD and manage a pre installed Win XP SP-2 on Segate HDD 40 GB 5200 RPM and install this HDD in the system. This time it is sucessfull it run fine.
4. After successfull running I format the HDD in problem system and start reinstalling the OS Win Xp with SP3 and this time it istalled in the system. Now it is running fine but a bit slower than the 80 GB HDD (7200.10) RPM.
I think main problem for not installing XP-2 is HDD's RPM.
What is your opinion ? Is it Possible ?
