Smile I need a no-frill MP3 player

I guess the caption says it all

Suggest me a basic MP3 player (512 MB/ 1 GB) with good sound quality. The screen need not be a colour one but it should provide me the option for choosing songs. Battery charge duration should be decent and FM radio would be an added advantage.

My preferred choices are Transcend/Sandisk/Creative/Sony . Feedback of those who actually heard these would be welcome. I am not in favour of i-pod because I feel they are too hyped up. They are definitely good but I feel people buy them for looks and without knowing there are better alternatives out there (for e.g. cowon).

Transcend T610 = +Great Battery backup -Poor headphones - 2700 for 1GB
Sandisk Sansa = +Good Quality -Size +/- AAA Battery - 3000 for 1GB
Creative Zen Nano = +/-AAA Battery 3600 for 1GB
Sony = Fanboy stuff. Never used it and never will use it. I hope the other members can help you in this.

NOTE : +/- indicates, either you like it or don't. I personally wud recommend the AAA battery, cos it is not that costly and u need not search for a USB port or external chargers for charging the battery

Wink Re: I need a no-frill MP3 player

ECE0105 thx for replying man

Regarding the AAA battery issue, I have a laptop so no problem in charging via USB

I mentioned SONY because I guess the earphones would be better than the rest. AFAIK T610 1 GB comes around 2100 bucks

Looking forward to more suggestions

Transcend T610. The best bet since you have the option. Chuck the earphones and get a better one. Yeah, the -ve point is that you have to charge it with USB.

T610 at 2100 Bucks is a steal... Go for it....

But yes... Invest in a good set of earphones... I think there was an old post about good earphones.. The Sienhieser ones cost around 800 Rs. See if you can get those as well.
