Talking Intel C2D E4300 + Asus P5N32-E SLI Testing

Well i didnt know where to post but i thought this would be an idea place to do so.If its the wrong one,Mods please move it to the correct section

Ok now i have this combo in here for quite some time.Due to my lack of time right now,i though of taking these 2 for a spin later but lately i have been reading a lot of reports of latest steppings of Conroe,Allendales being bad overclockers. The thought, 'Whether i got a rotten egg' kept haunting me,so i finally decided to see what i got. So far so good, initial tests look positive.

While testing i found out some interesting things that might interest Asus P5N32-E SLI owners here

Ok now i set 1.3V in BIOS for Vcore.Booted into windows, checked Asus probe and i see 1.3V,interesting but nothing great, alright, maybe Asus fixed Vdroop in latest BIOS,who cares

Just to test stability @ 2.4GHz, i ran orthos and left it there.while killing some time on the PC doing nothing,i found something interesting, with full load Asus probe showed Vcore = 1.28V

I was like WTF ! This is a Asus Board and it must have massive Vdroop I monitored it for a good 15-20 mins and it didnt budge a little

Does this mean that with newer board revision and latest BIOS,Asus has solved the Vdroop issue or am i just jumping to conclusion too early

BTW, this chip is doing 2.4 @ 1.3V,not bad for starters.
Update:

I am still on stock cooler so not going beyond 3G ,

Settings -
Vcore in BIOS - 1.4V
Vcore in Windows - 1.39V
Vcore with Orthos Running - 1.38V

So Vdroop is still 0.02V Wooot !!!
here is a Suicide or quick shot though 3.4GHz

Temps were scary @ 3.4 so rolled back immediately.

Please note, this effort of clocking was meant for testing the Vdroop and to some extent the OC potential of the Chip. There is a lot more in this chip though.
Oh and btw,the stepping is Q641A373

Nothing more till i slap on my WC kit on after a few days.

I bet that chip has more potential.

will you lower the multi and tell me the max FSB ur board does.

Well even i am eager to do that but not now cos this chipset gets real toasty so anything on this stock shitty heatpipe coolers is risky.I am going to slap my blocks on chipset and CPU,more serious benching will be done after that. Will post here all the results

Nice oc man ... the E4300 should easily do 3 GHz under 1.3V (currently mine is running at 3.02 GHz at 1.25V) ..... temps should be fine too ... but a few things .. i'd strongly recommend u to use a 1:1 divider if u have ddr2-667 ram ...

the E4300 should infact take similar volts ... FSB jump is almost similar , and these chips are pretty much the same ... across other forums , people are running these E4300's at 3 GHz with voltages under 1.3 ... what i said was merely based on other people experience ... and for air cooled CPU's , the CPU voltage actually contributes more to temps ...

Not necessarily. There are reports that newer batches of C2D can be horrible at OCing.IIRC someone got a bad bad 6600, needed 1.55 to get past 3.2V
I consider myself lucky i dont need that

even i know that the chip hold potential but i will try later with better cooling, nothing more now.

Please note that i was not attempting to do a routine OC here.Vdroop testing and finding OC potential of this chip was the main concern. As for memory, i have already had fun with the unlinked freedom of 680i
How does 1100 @ 4-3-3-12 sound

Some OC at lower volts ? Why not !

2.4GHz @ 1.25V Vcore, Orthos stable. Wooot !!!
Looks like i got a good chip here,i am already loving it

E6600 Speeds for no extra Volts,Superb !

CPU-Z Validation

It should be ... like i said previously ... the E4300's are indeed good oc'ers .. donno about the new batch though .. most people hit 3 GHz with the E4300 on stock voltages ...

I never wanted more than 3 GHz on the stock cooler ... so i've not tried going further anyway .. temps are awesome , and the performance too ... and all on stock cooling , what else can i ask ??

Stripped !!!

There she goes

Blocks Installed

Piping in place

CPU too gets some treatment

Finally !!!

Some initial Testing -

I am still worried about how to cool the Mosfets They are bare with no cooling on them

3GHz Orthos testing gives temps around 43C.

Currently @ 2.4GHz. Full Load temps reach 35C max

1:1 is always better

so why aint u running ur proccy @ 3GHz??
i'm running mine @ 3GHz with 1.38vCore and idle temp of 28C and load temps of 55-58C.
the vCore is set to auto in bios,2 wat val sud i set it?

Mine worked flawlessly @ 1.28V

Well the reason for not running at 3G is that when i installed the blocks,i ripped off the Heatpipes, now they exposed the PWM area MOSFETS.Now they get soooo toasty, they almost burnt my finger

So until i figure out a solution to cool them,i am not gonna clock more.
