CdRom stops working suddenly

hey guys,i am really confused as my BenQ Combo CD/DVD drive has stopped working suddenly......it doesnt read any cds..though the cd tray opens and closes perfectly.....i dunno what happened to it ....i have uninstalled the drivers of the cdrom and restarted my computer so that the windows might install the drivers again automatically....but it doesent happen...,,I dont have a restore point created in windows too........
is there any way i can get some help about this thing or is there any software download???
Did i miss any file in windows which made this happen ....coz i am not the only one who uses this computer....my family members too use it....
Please need help immediately........

have u installed the drivers back? in xp there was a fix for cd rom. update ur comp. and get the drviers from cd rom site. it help me with my sound prob.

Have u check ur rom is working on another system? If no then check, it will help u for troubleshooting

maybe lens dirty.clean with lens cleaner cd.

better, open and clean lens manually.

just open disconnect all the cables and pull from the cabinet and if possible u make open the topcover and make some cleaning with gently without any hard pressure over the components,, and also try a cdlens cleaner ,, then fix all the covers screws and all the cables back ,, then try to power it and test,, if then also it fails to read,

then no way to use it , just dump to old stock and replace with new ones...
