Default new ram is not supporting.

I have intel desktop 845G motherboard, i am trying to install 1.0Gb(Dynet) ram with 400mhz. freq. but when i am inserting the ram in the slot the pc is not booting. It is giving the beeps. The ram is good & booting the pc with Intel chipset 845 motherboard. My pc is booting well on 256Mb ram with 333mhz freq.My motherboard have the setting for 266mhz & 333mhz in the BIOS.I tried to set the ram on both these frequencies but i was unable to install it.i have tried the ram on both the slots & tried the 1.0Gb ram individually on both the slot.the slot have no problem. Also i checked the ram is DDR & not the DDR2. How can i install the 1.0Gb ram?

I think that due to different architectures of 1gb and 256mb ram models the mother board is giving beeps.Try solely installing the 1gb ram into ur computer and boot the comp(i mean remove the 256 mb).If it still does not boot then ur ram slot might be defective(cause as u said its booting the other pc well)if it boots then u better do away with the 256 mb as it will not have any major effect on performace if u are using xp.It can also be that the 1Gb ram is ddr 2 model and 845 mobo does not support ddr2
