Default dual core or x2?

which processor is better - intel dual core or amd x2?

ofcourse, one obvious advantage of dual core is that u can upgrade later to c2d without changing the mobo...

Cool Re: dual core or x2?

Amd x2 would outperform dual core it would be easily noticeable he you buy both of them which you are not going to do hence i would suggest that in for amd x2 4800+ and though you might notice that the core speed of intel is greater than from that of amd's the latter would perform better buy a nvidia based chipset for it which would add to its performance and i think amd is going to slash prices so it would be worth waiting a bit i heard that they were going to do so but am not completely sure

@azad
Yes, go for X2 is u total budget for CPU+mobo is less than 13k. In that case u can get
M2N MX mobo and 4600+ or 4800+ . They are better that C2D E6300.

Or even a 5200+ is up for 10k now. Its 2.6Ghz and 2Mb L2 cache[2x1MB].

But the AMD Dual core mobos aren't compatible with C2D. If u wand C2D compatible mobo and a dual core proccy, then no choice other than Pentium D. Its just waste of money and it heats up quickly.

if u wanna buy Intel C2D then wait till may-june as Intel will slash prices by as much as 40%.
if u cant wait and want to buy immediately then go in 4 X2 and nVidia chipset mobos from Asus.

@csczero
Nowadays most new apps have built in algorithm that divides the load among the cores. Even on older apps, the X2 CPu divides the load even if the app doesn't intentionally do multithreading. Same is with C2D.

But newer games like Crysis boast of huge perfomance boost if used with a dual core or quad core CPU. They are highly optimised to work with 2 or more CPUs.

as you'll be be going for a C2D ultimately, then i'd suggest go for a P4 (or Dual core) & a Intel 965 based m/b.

stay with a P4 for now & later upgrade to a C2D.

Amd gives DUAL CORE OPTIMIZER for full support to single and dual threaded applications.. as said AMD gives a better Price/performance ratio... while i also have INTEL, but i prefer AMD for BUDGET....

I think AMD is far better considering Price Performance ratio. A slight edge in performance of C2D does not justify the huge difference of 3000 - 4000 in cost as compared to AMD. Thus AMD is best so far. On 22 April Intel will slice prices and will also launch E6320 & 6420 models with 4MB cache. To pre-empt this price slice, the AMD has further planned the reduction in prices arround 9 Apr, well before Intel. I don't think Intel can match them in price war, where X2 4200+ will be available within 5000.

Thus it is in favour of AMD now. Also the merger of ATI & AMD has started to bear fuit. AMD has come out with its 690G [HDMI] motherbaords with integrated ATI X1250 graphics onboard. These boards are already out by MSI & Asus. Moreover, It is well known fact that better options are available in respect of onboard graphics for AMD motherboards rather than for Intel [GMA 3000].

Sorry about the "dumb" replys. Now I'll do my best to clarify my posts.

I used to love AMD.... until the Core Duo happened. I hated the Pentium processors, and I hate them now. Me myself use a Mac Pro with Intel Xeon now, after my Core Duo Mac Mini.

In my opinion, Intel's the best for performance, AMD's best for value for money.

Yeah the price war is scheduled for 9 Apr & 22 Apr. Hope they R in Time.
AMD prices has started to show already in Indian market and it comes into effect within days if not months.

Not very sure about intel, It may take longer for the benefit of price cut to reach customer. To be at safer side I think by May it should be.

If not outperform, it should be at par with them more or less. There can be bit of here and there. Price is also main factor deciding between them. X2 6000+ would outperform E6600.

In some applications 6000+ beats even E6700.AMD is planning to slash the prices on 9 th april as prem sharma has already mentioned in the previous posts.And INTEL will announce 22nd April(almost) but AMD will also launch their R600 Graphics chip & a new core on 22-25th April as expected.
