AGP Drinks power? really...

Okay a lil Question... for the peace of my mind (and to win a lil wager) he he

I have AGP card "GeForce 6800 GS"... it needs two "Molex connectors"

My fren was telling me "this CARD is power hungry" (which i know... come on two molex... i get the clue )

But then he further added "These CARD keep on drinking power"... that got me worried

Is that like... TRUE?

I thought the card will only DRAW according to it's need:
* Like when I'm using internet or typing in WORD it should take MIN
* And when i switch on DVD movie or Games... it shall MAX... isn't it so?

yeah power consumption reaches max limits when ur gaming at max limits of the card.at other times power consumption is less.

It requires two molex or a single 6 pin power connector ??? Ok , lets put this simple .. at idle state , the card does get enough juice from the slot itself ... under heavy load , the card "consumes" from the power connector ...

its not with AGP but the family of ur GPU, that the power consumption depends on.
A newer core consumes much less power that a similar perfomance older family GPU. Like a 6800GT and a 7600GT are similar performer. 6800GT needs much power and needs 2 power connectors whereas 7600GT dun need any external connector at all. The 8 series is better power efficient.

7600 gt agp does indeed need have one power molex connector ..

It has two molex connector.... but both have 1 pin missing in each

So that makes "6 pins" in total... so instead of using two molex i can use some other plug ? "6 pin power connector "... like death virus mentioned ?

No, itll either have 2 molex or a six pin connector. Both are different.
