Its always better to buy a low end quad core processor than a high end C2D.
Cuz a high end C2D will only hav a higher clk speed and larger cache and only 2 processing cores, but a quad core with even lower clk speed will out perform cuz of its 4 processing cores.

For animation , the more the cores , the faster it gets ... so a quad will shine anyday .. get a good mobo and oc that .. u should easily hit 3 GHz atleast ..

^^ Yo, please specify the heat aspect about Quads too.

Consider this scenario -
Intel QX6700 @ 3.4GHz Full Load under water = 70C+ on each core.Power Draw of ONLY the CPU MIGHT be in the range of 400W

To put it bluntly, Kentsfield or Quad Core avlbl now are bloddy furnaces even though show exceptional performance.Remember that they are 2 Conroe Cores glued together, something like Smithfield,2 Prescotts glued together.
SO think about it,is it really worth spending 40-50k on it ?

Its best to avoid the current kentsfields as they are way too power hungry. Once the native quadcores arrive, they'd be a better deal as TDP will be much lower.
