The opinion of guys @ Techtree should not be taken at face value.

If you check sites like cdfreaks and CDRlabs, you'll know that all Liteons have some issues during the lead-in part of the burn with standard DVD-Rs, i.e. the liteon burners tend to be 'picky'.
On the other hand, DVD+R write quality tends to be quoted as better.

This may or may not matter.
I personally have a good experience even with DVD-Rs.
It might be due to the fact that DVD-R media especially the cheapos which have questionable quality tend to abound in the markets, as well as duplicates of original DVD-Rs. the same is not the case with DVD+Rs however. They are relatively scanty in India and pricier.
If you are of the adventurous kind, just buy a well documented burner
like the SOHW1693S and make your own write strategies for the media you use by flashmodding the burner. That way you get good quality burns even on cheap disks. This works out to be easier with Liteon burners than other brands due to good community support, i.e. the 'hackability' of Liteons is best.
