4. ASUS P5RD2-VM Motherboard
5. 2 Seagate harddisks (not SATA, plain vanilla 80GB ones)
6. Sony DVD writer and ASUS CD Writer
(Sony DVD Writer is the master and ASUS CD Writer is the slave)

Problems:

1. When copying something from the ASUS CD Writer to my HDD, music
and movies are horribly stuttering. I can't listen to music while copying
from the ASUS drive. This doesn't happen with the Sony DVD drive though.

2. If I boot into the OS without a disc in my Sony DVD drive, the drive
won't read any discs after login. I have to boot my machine with a disc
in the DVD drive, then and then only it will recognize the contents of the
disc. Otherwise it just opens the Windows autoplay options for a blank
CD/DVD.

Anyone got some idea what is happening here?
Try enabling the DMA option if its not already done for both the drives, Try changing the master, slave combination. 2nd one seem a piculiear problem. It does happenes sometimes but that for me comes out to be a disk problem, I clean the disk at the most, I try it with other drive otherwise bad luck.

1. Enable DMA go to device Manager and there select the secondary IDE channel and go to advanced settings and chose enable DMA if available instead of PIO mode.

2.Try flashing ur drive with current firmware for the drive. For firmware visit the vendor site and look for the firmware for the model u have.

@dilpedilip U will not be able to add AMD chips on those boards as they are designed for Intel.

Dilip I have replied to your original thread. Its not that people do not want to reply but either its the same query one asks or thread somehow gets missed. I have replied to your query in your thread, we can have a discuession there. In this way more people can participate and you will get a broader openion.
