Question Worthy 2 buy a a dvd writer?

guys, i hav a celeron machine @500mhz and 128mb ram
will a dvd writer work on my system smoothly?
and if not wat do u think is it worth a buy at the given speed lag???

i found out that the guys at lamington sell the same make same model for 1700-oem and 1950-box pack n say that the same period of guarantee applies 4 both

DVD writer would work smoothly, though a piece of advice...do not run any other application while burning.

Liteon/Sony are the best stay away from samsung/LG

dvd writer will work but
main prob is lower RAM ,burning a dvd will take 2 much time (maybe min45-50min
)better upgrade RAM and have a nice dvd r/w

RAM has little to do with Burning speed.....

It will work, but try upgrading ur RAM, or else it may lead to frequent burn errors.

Yes the burning software extensively uses ram to cache while burning a DVD at max speed. he should be able to burn discs successfully if he close all other applications nd burn at 4x speed or lesser. But it would take hell of a time.

Leme rephrase what I wrote. I guess I should have put it in a better way. More RAM does not dictate the burning speed, your writer can still burn on higher x even if your ram is 64, the point is we might run the risk of getting Buffer underrun problem which is...

when the processor is slow in supplying data enough to the writer for it to record the data properly, this can happen when you are running multiple applications at the same time while burning on a not so fast computer.
To avoide this writers usualliy have a buffer but if you have a too slow computer or too many applications are running the buffer will run short of data. To avoide this its adviced to burn the disk at lesser X. In this way CPU will only have to send half as much data to keep the buffer full, making the whole process less sensitive to errors..............

A DVD at 16 burns data at 22MBPS. Its very high speed and its sure to go buffer under-run of old PCs if burned at 16x. So u should first allocate the maximum ultrabuffer on Nero 7 and close all other apps. The disc is more prone to error when burning the last secsions, ie after 50 or 60% as according to constant aggular velocity(CAV) recording the burning gets max speed(upto16x) at the eye moves to end or outer edge of disc. So better choose 2x. But surelly u can burn DVDs.

^^ Better not touch the paging file size (Your computer might start behaving quite irratically if the ratio is messed with), instead I suggest you better go by the suggestions posted my arvind or me.....

Well, the difference is that the boxed writer is original, and the other one is pirated(duplicate). Always insist on original products, be it software or hardware. Original software and hardware are safer and offer better performance8)
