Unhappy 250 GB HDD partitioning blues...

Hi guys,
i have seagate 250 GB HDD . I recently was trying to install slackware 11.0 and messed up everything. I think it was something like two active partitions were created. Now , I wanna repartition my HDD but seagate disk manager is showing only 137 GB and also says that the MBR is being redirected to another record. I know its something related to 48 bit LBA but I wanna know what is the solution ??? I want to completely format my disk , make it as a new HDD is and repartition it . Which software do I use ?? I have already tried seagate disk manager and seagate disc wizard.

My PC config is :
P4 2.4 GHz
Intel D845GVSR
512 MB RAM
250 GB seagate HDD.

Please guys help.

Paragon Partition Magic might help you. U shud first delete the logical partitions, then the extended partition and finally delete the primary partition. I hope this helps

simply use the bootable XPSP2 cd to fdisk and format your HDD.

or attach your HDD to the pc of some friends of yours who have installed the XPSP2 to create partitions and and formating through disk management

If you want to use slackware only then just use fdisk in there and go around. It may take a few tries but you'll get hang of it.

mmmm then the best shot is to get a boot CD/FDD boot to dos use fdisk to repartitioned the HDD, or use this sexy s/w called BOOTIT, its a GUI based organizer, you can create a boot CD/FDD through it and can delete all partitions including your MBR and recreate them right from the begining.

I dont think so. Even if it is deleted or ur mbr is corrupted u can copy the mbr from ur friends hdd and replace ur mbr with it. Just came across this proggy.

DiskInternals Partition Recovery is an advanced software tool, which is intended for all users, who need to recover some data or lost partitions. You deleted a file or your boot record, master boot record or partitions are damaged? You are at a loss for solutions here? This program will be a magic wand to make the whole situation go your way. DiskInternals Partition Recovery is designed as a step-by-step wizard and requires no special skills to understand how it works.

DiskInternals Partition Recovery foresees a variety of cases, when it may render its authoritative assistance. It is just what you need, when you desperately try to recover data from damaged, deleted, lost or reformatted partitions; when you have accidentally deleted a partition image file or an important document; when a disk volume containing valuable information was damaged due to a system malfunction or a disk volume was damaged by a dangerous virus; when your OS cannot access a disk drive; when files or folders are corrupted and the like. These problems are surmountable, because the program has a built-in triad of wizards, which effectively solve all these problems. It has Partition Recovery Wizard, NTFS Recovery Wizard and FAT Recovery Wizard. The whole process of restoration is automatic and is shown in a visually clear way.

DiskInternals Partition Recovery supports a multitude of file systems, including FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, VFAT, NTFS, NTFS4 and NTFS5. The tool scans every disk sector for recoverable data; therefore it never ignores or misses anything that can be restored. With this program you are always on the safe side: DiskInternals Partition Recovery repairs data from virtual disks, and it does not matter if these files or folders were deleted before recovery or not. DiskInternals Partition Recovery is a sure way to get you precious information back.

Brother i went through the same thing an year back
better option is to use the bootable CD of the XPSP2, do not use the SDM as its not ok for 120GB+HDD Drives (there's nothing wrong with your HDD, its just SDM is not able to understand your hdd's current state)

if you do not have the bootable XPSP2 then delete all your partitions using your normal XP boot CD (as there are chances that your friends PC Windows fail to regognise the HDD attach and fail to boot completly LOL (hangs on welcome screen) ) then attach the HDD to your friends PC and make it brand new by fdisking nad formating it.

phenom from what I get, you want to format the whole disk now? Then create partitions using fdisk, and leave partition(s) empty for windows, install windows there, then again boot with slackware DVD, then run setup, this time you needn't run fdisk again. And no worries of anymore data loss.

@mehul , u got it right.
try above mentioned method
or cut the food supply (remove battery) for about 5-10 minutes of your mb (or if you have jumper settings do it ) for all defaults.
