Default CD Writer

Hello,

I would appreciate some help in identifying what could be the issue here.

I have a Sony CDWriter52x/32x/52x (Sorry I dont know the model nos) thats about 2.5 years old, but offlate its been acting in a wierd manner.

Symptoms are,

1. I get Buffer Buffer Underrun errors and the CD fails to burn, rendering the CD useless.

2. CD's fail to read properly! Audio Cd's play in the stop start mode which is quite irritating.

3. Certain CD's example which come as OEM's simply go in and keep turning failing to do their job - read the Cd!

4. Surprisingly the only amusing this in this whole thing is that if I manage to burn a CD using this writer that CD works flawlessly.

Now, I know all this is pointing in only one direction that my CD writer has gone awry. I just want to confirm this.

5. Added later : I get a session fixation error when I try to burn (9/10 times ).

Can it be serviced or has the lens gone?

If you all recommend I replace the writer do tell me is it better to move to the DVD writers and if so which one ( Please quote a price also ). Also do tell me the price of some CD writers too. Thank you.

Yeh go for a dvd writer from sony if you want to replace. No use trying to make the old one work.

Upgrading would be the best option for u if u can (and u should) go for a DVD writer or else settle for a Combo.
