Default Suggest an upgrade

Hi guys, I assembled a computer 2 years ago, but Im planning to upgrade my computer. This is not really a gaming pc, as I mostly play on consoles, but I want to get one that can run games like PES6 or FIFA smoothly, and hopefully run Vista.

This is my current configuration

Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz
512 MB Ram
80 GB Hardrive
Dont know the name of motherboard, but it has only PCI slots

Obviously ill have to get a new motherboard, and Ill also get atleast 360 GB hard drive. Any advise on the processor, graphic card, sound card etc. my budget is about 25,000.

You can get a motherboard based on the current chipsets of 945G or P965 from Intel.

You can get a Pentium D if you wanna save for your graphics card. Go for a 160GB hard-disk which would cost about 2500/-.

Go for a 7600GT graphics card and a Creative Live sound card.

I suppose all this would fit in your budget of 25,000/-.

Thanks for the help guys. Well another requirement that I may need is working on Maya 8. Ive been working with it in school, but soon may start working at home. Can anyone suggest a set up (gfx card, ram, processor) that would run Maya smoothly, and be able to render complex 3d models, and animations smoothly? I might cut down on the hard drive and get a 160 or 200 gb one? Thanks

For "MAYA" get as much RAM and HDD space possible (don't cut on these). Also a better CPU helps a lot when rendering so by current trend get yourself Intel C2D (whichever model that comes with in ur budget) or minimum AMD X2 3800+ or 4200+.
Graphic cards are only responsible for viewport feedback, so, at minimum get 7600GS or GT 256MB.

If you are planning on using MAYA than go for 2GB RAM, 360GB HDD (atleast)...unfortunately those 2 alone will cost you around Rs.13000/- leaving only Rs.12000/- for Proc & mobo

So you either "up" your budget to get C2D and a good compatible mobo + the sound card you wanted or settle for something less...but than you'd have to forget the gfx card unless your budget is raised significantly...I don't want to discourage you but from the look of your old config you might also need a new smps especially if you are going in for C2D

I see. Maya used to run quite smoothly on the school computers, they had 2 gb ram but only 200 gb hard drives. I could just leave the sound card, but wouldnt I also need a good graphic processor for Maya as well? I can raise but budget to 30-32,000?
