recently my old (2004) pc config stopped working. Config Intel D845gvsr+p4-2.4 processor 2 hdds of 40g both Samsung. 1 of them very old(2003) samsung cd-r+dvd combo drive 256mb RAM LG 14 inch CRT monitor Now the display is not coming up and its a mobo problem as per the local tech. Monitor is workin as I checked it w/o connecting it to pc and powering it. I need to build a new pc which includes Casing/tower Processor + mobo RAM preferably 1gb cd-r+dvd-r 2 hdds 80g SATA My listing Amd Athlon X2+M2MX Asus Mobo=10000 as per the dealer casing and other components excluding the CD/dvd combo= 10500 as per dealer He is buying back my old config at Rs.2000/- So net cost will be 18500/- for above combo Questions 1. Is the above price ok. 2. Suggestions regarding good processor and mobo 3. Good suggestions for other peripherals Usage will be as a home user and to some extent programming on linux an windows Thanks Ninad |

he is saying 10,000 for Amd X2 & some Asus mobo which his dealer has offered him.
I wonder, how can it be both X2 & Mobo in 10,000. As far my knowledge, X2 3800+ itself will be 10,000 or more. |

Hi
If I get the following C2D-E6300@1.86ghz. What other combinations can you suggest and what will be the total cost ASus/alternative Mobo 1gb RAM DVD writer Cabinet+SMPS SATA HDD (pref 2nos) I guess the above config is linux compatible Also is it possible to run old games (Quake2, superbike other dos games) on the above config. Thanks Ninad |

Mobo: Asus P5N-E SLI = Rs.8000/- Proc: C2D-E6300 = Rs.8500/- RAM: Transcend 1GB 533Mhz = Rs.5000/- DVD: Lite-on / Sony LG Dual Layer Writer (whatever u fancy) = Rs.2100/- SATA HDD: Samsung Barracuda 250GB = Rs.3850/- Samsung Barracuda 160GB = Rs.3300/- Samsung Barracuda 120GB = Rs.2850/- Samsung Barracuda 80GB = Rs.2500/- Cabinet+SMPS: You can get a decent one for around Rs.2500/- without compromising too much. But I always consider it a compromise when someone does not spend atleast 1600/- for SMPS alone coz that's what a decent SMPS like Powersafe or the likes will cost. This config is much more than good enough for Linux and as far as gaming is concerned you can not only play "old games (Quake2, superbike other dos games)" but you will also be able to paly most of the latest games released so far at low to medium settings.

Go for a Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 or E6300 and a P965 chipset. P965 promises quad core support as well. (but who wud use a quad core with a mobo not specially built for it. funny)
