I think there should be an option for SATA in ur BIOS Settings, like set the HDD for Legacy OS like win 98 r set it for NT based OS, like win XP.
So pls make sure that u hv selected that option to "Set for WinXP"

Sorry, but I can't remember the exact option name.

Hi,
You have not mentioned whether you had your old PATA connected while connecting your new SATA. But if yo have'nt try this:
1. Pull out the IDE cable of your old HDD (PATA)
2. Fit into the SATA ports your new SATA drive if your mobo supports it.
3. It should now detect it and afterwards you can reconnect your PATA.
4. Remember the drive letters might appear different afte installing SATA.

If after above steps your SATA drive is not detected, the BIOS setting being correct; then your SATA HDD is dead as dodu,no seagate software (they are just a ads tools nothing special) tools will work when the BIOS cannot detect it. Its my hard earned experience.

Did you choose to manually instal sata drivers or have you integrated them. Windows XP by default does not provide sata drivers automatically.

please refrain from making a general statement, your sata drivers might be in the CD or might not be, but this does not seem a problem, because if there are no SATA drivers, it should go to the screen where it says "No HDD found". anyhow, what's ur PSU?
