Better Music Listening - 2.1 0r 5.1 ?

hi guys I'm finally going to get my system up n running 2day .Am getting a few 11th hr thots .

Audio :-

Basically I want good quality music listening experience .I have shortlisted Logitech X 230 (2.1) & Logitech X530 (5.1) spkrs. Now my question is will 5.1 chnl spkr give better MUSIC LISTENING ( NOT movies , but cds/mp3 s songs ) than 2.1 chnl spkrs . On Net & in mags I have read tht mp3 cd s n audio cds r basically encoded for 2.1 n not 5.1 chnl & So 5.1 will NOT MAKE MUCH DIFFERENCE - except for more power . I have heard both spkrs & even 2.1 was good .
BUT ITS A GIFT BY ME TO MOM , WHO IS AN AUDIOPHILE N SO I WANT BEST MUSIC LISTENING EXPERIENCE .
( @ mags 5.1 purpose is basically movies - surround sound etc n for music it does not add to quality ) .PLZ advice .

5.1 plays DVD movies at amazing audio quality. DVD-audio music has started in bollywood (it's already available for US music albums and in some other regions) and this is surround quality music and I GUESS the difference will be amazing. So, to be future proof, go for the 5.1. Dhoom2 DVD-audio disc is available now in the market. Though the audio is not good, this is an indication that DVD-audio will now be available for bollywood movies.

5.1 ofcourse .. coupled with a XFi , u'll really get a much better experience than a 2.1 system ..

still nothing can beat good old 2.1 music format when listening to audio cds or mp3s at high bitrates...
dvd audio will still take atleast 2 yrs imho to really replace stereo listening and better 5.1 speakers will be available by that time for the same price

go for 2.1 speakers...i suggest altec lansing CS21 2.1 speakers for music listening if u cannot extend ur budget above 6K

Yup Mr Suave is the rite guy to talk to,2.1 it by far meant for music listening.I would suggest you Altec Lansing too. (iam one satisfied customer when it comes to AL)

same here , i have an altec lansing 2.1 system n audio quality is crystal clear , most ppl when they hear my speakers they say that they sound better .

n as for the thread , you can always use a 5.1 system as a 2.1 one so y not get a better deal n buya 5.1 system

U have heard right that 5.1 are not good for music (they are if u like DVD audio encoded in 5.1 channel). If u want ur mp3's to sound best and u don't buy original CD'S or DVD'S (movies) that support 5.1 channel audio than u should definitely go for the Altec Lansing MX5021, if u can afford it. Its the best ot there , don't trust me? Ask Digit, Chip or any other Mag, I have bben using it for over a year now............
