Default upgrade my hard disk


my comp config:
845gl intel motherboard
2.4 ghz processor celeron
512 ddr ram

i currently have 40 gb harddisk drive
i want to upgrade it ro 200gb
can my computer support it
upgrading harddisk depend upon motherboard or something else?
pls advice me which harddisk i should buy

yes....but you'll have to find a one with PATA interface.

whats difference betwwen pata and sata?(is it rpm)
along with the answer plsssssssssssss also post the suggestion which harddisk i should buy

no...not the RPM... both may run at 7200.x.

PATA offers upto 133MB/s...while SATA offers 150MB/s and SATA II offers 300MB/s ....but it doesn't make any sense as an average HDD gives 45-60MB/s...

First check Is your Motherboard support SATA or not ? I mean do you have SATA port ?
Technical clarification showed by samrulez, But we are home user are hardly found any diffrence between them.

Go for any one of them which your mobo supports

so finally i can buy 200gb pata harddisk and it will work fine in my computer

y i am asking this because one of my frnd told me that my motherboard will not support more than 137gb?
