Question transfer video from Sony Handy DCR-HC36E

I have a Sony Handycam Model no: DCR-HCR36E.
How do I transfer video to my pc?
I have a FireWire card in my pc.
I also have a FireWire cable.
But Windows movie Maker dosen't find any devices attached to the computer even if i connect it properly.
Am i using the wrong cable?
plz help.

When you connect the Sony Camcorder through FireWire, does a message ballon pop up in lower right corner? If yes, then it indicates that your Camcorder is getting recognized by system.

If not, open Device Manager .

Also, you need to enable the DV-IN mode ( something like that) in Camcorder to allow DV data to be pumped out through firewire. Go through menu of camcorder or the manual, if you have one.

Open the Device Manager and look if you see a Firewire controller properly installed (You should not see a yellow bang against it).. Also check if you see a DV device there, once you connect the Camcorder.

Are you using XP SP2?
Check this out..
Hope this helps..

Whats your OS, my guess is...... the Firewire card drivers are not properly installed. Check in device manager if there is a yellow exclamatory mark against the device, the drivers are not properly installed.

Everything seems fine.
Device manager says its ok.
The camcorder shows DV i.Link something when connected. It seems fine.
I use XP Professional SP2.
There are two types of cable:
1)4pin to 4pin and 2)4pin to 6pin
my camcorder supports 4pin and i have a cable which is 4pin to 6pin
should i use 4pin to 4pin.
plz help

No 4 to 6 pin is fine. Windows movie Maker should find the device. Anyway I dont use WMM. Try downloading a small application called WinDv the best capturing utility and its free. Its has virtually no settings. When you connect your camm and play, the application detects and plays the video on your screen. Now all you need to do is press capture to start capturing.
