Goto http://sony.storagesupport.com/
Download updated firmware for both of your drives.
Download firmware for u'r model nos only.
Any other model no. & u'r drive is screwed (if firmware updater does allow it).

Anyway, before writing, insert the blank CD/DVD & keep pressing the Eject button until u see it's LED blink. That means higher speed has been activated.

Make sure u'r using a higher speed disk. I mean a 52x cos u won't be able to write at 52x on a 32x blank media.

As for reading media at slow speeds, that media must have been written/burned at slower speeds.

What are u'r drive models anyway?

I have a Sony Combo Drive CRX-320E & DVD-Writer DRU-800A each.

consult your drive manual.....

A 52 X means is not that it can write 52 X speed

It may be read your cd in 52x(Max) but write only 32x(Max) speed.
and make sure about your burning media....that is 52x....

say your drive can write in 40x speed .....if you put on it 16x media it can only write as 16x speed[here the media speed limitation] or if you put a 52x media....it only write 40x speed[here the drive speed limitation].

post your model no as stated by g_goyal2000, then experts can help you more easily...If you
don't know use nero info tool.

there is no problem in your drive do nothing... sony drive is coming with a speed autiselect featurewhich determines the cd quality you insert and determines the maximum safe speed so if you want to write on 52x then just place a cd on the drive tray and press and hold the insert button until the light flickers for two times and then relese the button it will disable the speed autoselect feature and you can write upto 52x..

note: you have to do it everytime you want to write on 52x...
