Default RAM Problem

hey i recently blew my RAM so i purchase a new one but meanwhile i had been using my friend's RAM but the new one just doesn't work i get a beep sound at the bios boot.My earlier RAM was 256Mb DDR 266Mhz Hynix and the same of my friend but my new RAM which is same doen't work.is it due to some clock frequency difference that digit shows each time like 4-4-12.Plz hlp.

Also my other friend 333Mhz also works fine

266 mhz is clock frequency .. while 4-4-12 is your ram latency
does the bios screen show up on your screen or is it the beeps before anything happens..
my cuz had bought a ram.. it used to run fine through the bios but wont boot any of my OS while the same ram would boot xp completely on his pc but used to abruptly reboot on its own will.. i suggested him to get a replacement and things are fine
