I don't know about the latest offering from Samsung. But, I wouldn't buy a Samsung optical drive, even if it was a sole seller in the market. In a year's time most of them start giving a problem with the tray or stop reading CD/DVD.
Just search around the forum, you will get 'n' no. of threads where people are cursing Samsung drives.

I don't recommend Samsung CD/DVD writers. Most of the users are having problem in mechanism of tray operation. Samsung is doing well only in Monitor business.

Go for Sony. All time best.

Buy the SONY DRU 820A cuz its a rebadged Liteon DOHW 1693S.U can easily crossflash it wit the Liteon firmware.

Samsung optical drives sucks. Go for either liteon or sony.

I say GO FOR LG ones..I am using it since 3 yrs and hasnt given any problems at all
