Default XP on USB Hard Disk


I have 40 GB USB HDD. I want to install XP SP2 on it. But whenever i try to do so it gives an error and quits. How do i install XP on it?

Then I take my words back.......here i sthe right answer.

It can't be done. The reason for this is that windows loads its own USB driver, and so it has to take the USB offline while it loads it, and so it will stop when it gets to that point.

I have installed XP in 4 GB partitions and had no installation errors

By the way check whether you External USB Drive is getting detected in the BIOS first and then Make the DVD/CD Drive as the 1st Boot Device

I recently heard about portable softwares they can be carried in external usb sticks or hdd, never tried any but that might do the job for you. I dont kno who wyou can make installed softwraes portable but there is a lot of them.
Portable firefox
portable nero etc
