SONY DVD / CD PROBLEM Please help

Hi,
I have Sony DRU-540A DVD Writer. It used to be fine
I thought sony is best!
Suddenly My DVD drive after 12 months stopped reading CDs ) lol written by itself
Huh? or many Cds 8 out of 10 or I had to insert 5-10 times
But dvd seemed to be ok so I continued using it
Now I find one little funny thing
I use Frontech Spindle Professional DVD
I write the DVD
I check the DVD by inserting it copying it it is great fine
I check it after 48 hours
it is fine
and after 7 or more days I insert it into drive and some files aren't working though visible. DVD drive just keeps on reading for hours ))) and gives CRC errors when copying those files
I insert reinsert and sometimes I get one file back (which was not coming say AVI or MPG or which was giving CRC error in copying) huh? Rarely!!
IS THAT SONY WRITER or FRONTECH DVD or a child?
CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME WHAT IS THE PROBLEM
I want to replace the DVD writer
would that solve?
Can I continue to write DVDs? and later read on my new DVD!
Please do help me (

try to update the firmware from sonyodd.com if i remember it right that should solve the problem otherwise the problem will be in the lens
