Default Is it PSU Prob?....need Help!!!!


My frnd gave me a cpu to fix which stopped working suddenly.....I opened the box and found that heatsink was full of dust..cleaned and tried to connect...but power supply and cpu Fans start & stop and nothing happens...I tried replacing with other psu but same thing happens....donno whr the prob is....can the tech guys here help me fix this....thanks in advance

Specs:
Pentium 4, intel board, 512 mb Ram, 80gb hdd

Hi,

There is a possibility that your Intel MotherBoard has got some problem. To confirm the healthiness of your PSU just remove the 24 Pin Connector from the Mother Board & short the Green & Black slots of the 24 Pin connector. (Be careful when you do this). On doing this the PSU should run smoothly, indicating that there is no problem in the PSU.

Also check whether there is a green LED on the MoBo & whether it is ON or not.

I had this same problem in my Intel 915 GAV Mother Board which was replaced by Intel as it was under warranty.

thanks Ramstrong for the advise....I really donno how to short the green and black slots of the 24pin....thanks in advance
