Default Help me to buy CPU

I am planning to purchase only cpu and I shorlisted for the following config

Processor: Inter Dual core 2.66
M/B : Intel 945 original something
RAM: 1GB
Harddisk:160 or 320GB
DVDWriter- SONY or SAMSUNG
DVDROM- SONY or SAMSUNG
Tunercard
Graphic card

But I have many doubts..

can anybody clarify me..

processor:
whats difference between Intel's DUALCORE & CORE2DUO processors..

m/b:
is 865 is best for dualcore processor or does anyother processor..
the retailers in hyd have only 865 boards..

ram:
which will give better performance: 2 ram's of 512mb or 1 one gb ram

harddisk:
again same ques which is best: two 160gb harddisks or single 320gb harddisk

Graphic card:
My main doubt is here. I dont know major about graphic card. I dont want spend heavy on graphic card. I want some graphic card within 3000rs which allows me to play game. I dont want play games at high frame rates.. just a card which allows me to play games bcoz some times some games dont just open without graphic card..

and last does INTEL 865 original board provies onboard graphic card.. or is there any other goot m/b for DUALCORE which provides onboardcard with not too much cost.. i.e it must come within budget of INTEL 865board+3000rs(which i want to spend on graphic card)

can any one please help me..

thanks in advance..

Default Re: Help me to buy CPU

here u can see the diff between duel core and core 2 duo

http://indigo.intel.com/compare_cpu/...&culture=en-US

160 GB should be more than enough until and unless u are storing some big files
buy one 1 GB ram
__________
6200 is surely below 3k ..and the 6600 non -gt is arnd 3.5 k..also..i would say 6600 non-gt is better than LE ..and anywayz..LE is not available...easily...and even for 6600 NON-GT u may need to go hunting..for it in different shops..

You haven't even given a budget which makes it difficult to recommend anything.

The 865 series is 4 generations old. Don't take that even if it's free. It dosen't support any dual core processors.

No need to buy 2 sticks of 512 MB RAM. Buy a single stick of 1 GB and keep your RAM slots free for upgrades. there isn't much difference in performance.

You don't need both DVD writer and DVD-ROM

Don't get a cheap graphics card. Get atleast a 7300GT. You'll be glad you spent a little extra money.

Get this config:
Core 2 Duo E6300 Rs. 9000
Asus P5LD2-VMSE Rs. 4900
1 GB DDR2 RAM Rs. 4800
Geforce 7300GT Rs. 4900
160 GB SATA2 HDD Rs. 2900
Liteon DVD writer Rs. 2000
Cabinet+400W PSU Rs. 1500
TV tuner of your choice Rs. 2000

Total Rs. 32,000

There is a huge difference between Pentium D and C2D processors. P-D were pesudo dual cores. There Netburst microarchitecture is far inferior with huge amount of heat generation and power consumption. That is why until C2D, AMD X2 4200+ was at the top. But Intel soon came back with a bang with actual dual core processors. C2D currently are the best processors around.
You can check this artical for complete detail.
http://www.techreport.com/reviews/20...2/index.x?pg=1

Now coming to your config.
MoBo.......865..Cheeeeee 865 is way too old and outdated. Stay away from it. I can suggest you couple of options but that would entirly depend on your budget. If you are on a tight budget and would like to stick to Intel, go for atleat Intel 945 series. To go a bit higher Abit and Asus offers you a wide varity of mobos. To start with P5LD2-VM SE or P5LD2-VM DH both are based on same 945 chipset and are very well budgeted. If you wanna build a system for gaming or extensive use I would again suggest ASUS based on nividia nforce4 chipset. eg P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe or P5N32-SLI Deluxe. I know you probably wont use the SLI but still these boards are the best gaming boards around. Mind you these ones are specifically for Gaming purpose and would be a bit expensive.

Coming to RAM. THE best one is corsair. go for 1 stick of 1 GB with atleast 533 Mhz speed. If budget allows go for 667 Mhz. If corsair is not available go for Kingston. I would not suggest RAM from Simtronics or Transient.

PCIE card....again if tight budget Geforce 6600GT best option or else 7300 512 MB GT againis the best bet. Opt for XFX.

I hope this helps. Let us know.....build your rig

Mobo's based on the 945 and 965 chipset both have onboard graphics.
I'd suggest you take the MSI 965 mobo for about 6.5k if you're not buying a seperate graphics card. The onboard graphics are better than the 945 mobo's onboard.

As for the HDD,
200 GB for Rs. 3800
250 GB for Rs. 4050
300 GB for Rs. 4850
Decide according to your budget.

For the DVD writer get Liteon or Sony or Benq but don't ever get Samsung.

Final config:

Core 2 Duo E6300 Rs. 9000
MSI 965 Rs. 6500
1 GB DDR2 RAM Rs. 4800
250 GB SATA2 HDD Rs. 4850
Liteon DVD writer Rs. 2000
Cabinet+400W PSU Rs. 1500
TV tuner of your choice Rs. 2000

Total Rs. 30,650

Speaking generaly, its faster, a whole lot faster and It consumes less energy [40% less]

Dual core wont run on 865 boards. You need boards like the 965 or 975.
Quote:
ram:

2 512s from the same company and of the same make will be better as they will run in dual chanl mode.

Quote:
harddisk:
again same ques which is best: two 160gb harddisks or single 320gb harddisk
one 360Gb HDD will be better as both discs will generate same ammounts of heat. Thus running two will cause more heating. [get two if you require RAID arrays]

It does have an onboard controler which is sufficient only for desktop use NOT FOR GAMES. You wont be able to run any games with ANY ONBOARD CONTROLER.
The intel 965's a board you can consider for dual core and it has a graphic controler.

The only difference in that config for me would be in the board. I would any time suggest ASUS P5LD2-VM SE based on same 945. Its a cool board with good features and would cost you around the same price. Rest is good enough.

Good Config given by drvarunmehta...unfortunately you will not get that config in Hyderabad for below Rs.30000...it will cost Rs.40000+ ... why?...because...I grew up in Hyderabad & also visit that place several times a year...I can gaurantee anyone who contridicts otherwise that it is NOT POSSIBLE to get the above config for Rs.30000 in Hyderabad.

For Rs.30000 you can only get the following config in Hyderabad or even in Secunderabad (as it's a bit more cheaper in secunderabad)

D805 processor (the so called "fake dual core" with D101Ggc = Rs.12000
HDD 200 GB (Samsung or seagate) Rs.4500
2 sticks of 512mb DDR 400Mhz RAM = Rs.7000
or
1 stick of 1GB DDR 400Mhz RAM = 6200
Lite-in DVD Writer Rs.2700
Cabinet & powersupply = Rs.1500 (which a COMPLETE compromise)
I suggest...a cabinet of any decent make = Rs.1500 ...because of the Hyderabad Summer which goes above 40degree) & Powersupply (NEVER compromise) Powersafe 400watts = Rs.2000

Pinnacle 110i TV Tuner card = Rs.2800

Graphics card (OPTIONAL as the onboard graphics for the above config will give you 128mb shared memory for graphics when you have 1GB sys memory)GeForce XFX 7300LE = Rs.3000

Even with this low end entry level so called "fake dual core" processor based config (WITHOUT a good cabinet & powersupply & Graphics card) it will set you back by Rs.30000+... because of taxes...as I've not included the taxes here.

If you are looking for a Core 2 based config you HAVE stretch your budget to Rs.40000 in Hyderabad.
