For 9k you get Core 2 Duo E6300.

all those dual cores are a lot cheaper, maybe 5-6k

yeah!
P Ds are fake ''Dual Cores'' and not actually in the true sence of the work ''Dual Core''.....go for C2D i.e Core 2 Duo.

Hi kirtan with due respect 2 u & assuming u r n expert in hardware how does it help anyone by just saying "P-D sucks", It'd b nice 2 back ur post with some kind of logical explanation as that'd b helpful 4 people like me who want 2 make a decision. Thanks

D805 is crap, D820 is bad as well. As for gaming, usually CPU plays the least important role in gaming. However try games at lower settings and resolutions and record FPU using FRAPS, your minimum and average FPS will easily give you away, even max in fact but max don't really matter.

You will notice the diffference clearly in near future games, even as of now, there can be some difference.

Other than gaming, C2D is just the way to go.

Either ways, you will regret not buying a C2D.

Guyz,
The architecture of the Pentium D prevents us to call it a dual core, because, the whole idea of dual cores is that 2 cores can simultaneously work on the same thing and use their own cache(s)...also directly communicate with each other,in these Pentium Ds the 2 cores cannot communicate with each other, all communication has to be via the FSB, so that's a big bottleneck.

The 8xx series has the Smithfield core which is nothing but 2 Prescotts stuck to gether...

It also has some serious heating problems, if the Prescott ran at 60 at load, 2 prescotts run at 75-76 at load,....

Well ... the whole PentiumD 8xx series are simply so called dual cores ... google a bit dude ... though they perform quite ok (infact pretty normal) .. the only point of concern would be the heat ... and with some good cooling and a good oc ... who cares about Core2 Duo anyway ...

And since the PentiumD 9xx series are a bit high on the cost .. the E6300 is really a big bang for buck .. ans it can take on most of the mid high end CPU's even at stock .. and has a big oc limit ...

Anyone mind advising the fellow on which one of those two to go for? Since the cost would include motherboard too, C2D will go well beyond his budget.
So, I guess Pentium D 820 is the one he should go for. Cost difference between them comes to around 1K or so AFAIK. Pentium D 820 should fit into his budget.
I am no hardware expert so I will leave it to you'll to guide him better. But, suggesting something that's insanely out of his budget makes no sense.

Biggest advantage of Core2Duo over PentiumD is temperature. Core2Duo consumes less power too. Core2Duo 1.86 was overclocked to 2.2 by me. It got blazing fast and was still stable. So if you can risk overclocking with core2duo its far better than PentiumD.

But let me tell you the E6300 is much superior to the P D. The Pentium D 820 is nothing but the 805 clocked at 3GHz. And it burns.

The E6300 is better technology, its just a 1.8GHz processor with a 65nm core.....so the 65 nm core is the most imp. it brings down the power consumption, keeps it cool and because of this its a hell of a overclocker....
So there is no comparison between the 820 or E6300!

Assuming that u want ONLY the processor than e6300 will come in ur budget but if u also need the mobo than under 8k u can only get D805 with a compatible mobo.

Get the Pentium D 945 3.4 GHz 4MB L2 cache for Rs. 8350.
It runs cooler than the Pentium D 8xx series too.

In that case sell your motherboard and get a new one. 8 grand on a Pentium D now is completely insane when the E6300 is less than 9k.

If ur budget is 8k & ur mobo is not c2d compatible & if u absolutely must get a PD than go for D820 but with 8k budget 4 proc alone u shud seriously consider dumpin ur old sys n get a E6300 & a mobo to go with it but going for D945 does seem insane besides it costs more than 8k

All prices quoted by deltapage r EXCLUDING taxes + webpage rates usually hide the street price to attract customers u can check in lamington road n u will find a significant difference...the ram prices u quote r approx 1k less than the street price...pls check street price.

The prices on www.deltapage.com are on the higher side if anything. Check the prices for monitors, DVD writers, cordless keyboards and mice, speakers etc. They're all available in Lamington road for the same or slightly lesser price.
Maybe in your city they'e priced higher but certainly not in Lamington road.

I'll quote several prices from the site and many people can confirm that these products cost the same or less.
Samsung 940BW Rs. 15,600
Sony DVD writer Rs. 2,400
Creative 2.1 SBS370 Rs. 1,225
Seagate 80GB SATA Rs. 2,300
Seagate 160GB SATA Rs. 2,975
Asus A8N-E Rs. 5,650
Asus P5LD2-VMSE Rs. 4,900

No website will quote wrong prices because it's not like a person will buy without comparing prices from several different places.
