does this monitor support 1280x1024 screen resolution ....

yeah...most 17" monitors support a max resolution of 1280x1024...

my 940 bw supports 1440x900 as its a wide screen but I'am sure more square 17"/19" LCDs support upto 1280x1024 @ 60Hz.

my Samsung 740 n does supports 1280x1024

The 770P natively supports 1024X726 and has a highest resolution of1600X1200.
The 740N has a highest resolution of 1024X726.

^^ You're wrong about the 740N. The link you have provided itself shows that the native res of the 740N is 1280x1024.
