Help In Buying Laptop

Hi,
I need to buy a laptop for beginer withusage in terms of internet and office application for now. I don't want to go for cheap laptops costing 35K or something as I feel that they are a big compromise on performance. Keeping budget in mind I have chosen these:

Compaq Presario V6102AU

Graphics: Intel Integrated 900 Media Accelerator
Price: Rs. 45,740/- + Tax

Dell Inspiron 6400
Processor: Intel Core Duo (1.6 GHz, 533 MHz FSB)
Memory: 1x512 MB DDR2
Display: 15.4” XGA Widescreen
HDD: 80 GB Ultra ATA
Graphics: Intel Integrated 950 Media Accelerator
Price: Rs. 52,764/- + Tax

Dell Inspiron 640M
Processor: Intel Core Duo (1.6 GHz, 533 MHz FSB)
Memory: 1x512 MB DDR2
Display: 14.1” XGA Widescreen
HDD: 80 GB Ultra ATA
Graphics: Intel Integrated 950 Media Accelerator
Price: Rs. 51,308/- + Tax

Rest of the config is nearly same and can be had from respective websites.

Can anyone help me in deciding on which one to buy? Any other suggestion would be welcomed.

Well things have changed, entry level notebooks are cheap but they are not cheaply made. Moreover the manufacturers have to strike a fine balance between specs and build quality to bring a good name to their brand in general. Budget laptops are something which no one can do without as it accounts for a descent share.

As for the laptops you mentioned, the first Compaq laptop does look nice (looks and config) but going by this months digit laptop shootout -it isnt too great on the battery life (~100 mins) and gets a little hot. So going the Intel way makes a lotta sense for regular office usage. Moreover that extra battery life doesnt hurt. 14.1" screen would be just perfect, so stick with Dell 640m.
