DDR 400 can be used instead of 266 ones. It will underclock to 266.
cost: 2800/- as now mem price is very high.

512MB 266MHz sticks r not available,333MHz is also be'come very rare...but 400MHz r easily available...Transcend 512MB 400MHz modules cost 2500/- each..

If u install it will work @266MHz...with the existing module...

Availability is questionable and even if you do find it, the sticks will be more expensive than 400mhz sticks. My advice get 2 400mhz ddr1 sticks 256mb[if your mobo supports dual channel] and remove yor current stick. 512MB at 400 [dual chanel] is weay better than 512+128 at 226 if your work demands quicker calculations [in other words a faster pc].
For RAM intensive [ie more the merrier programs like video editors] you might like to keep you current one.

one 256 stick should cost about 2.5k

You should be able to get it second hand becase everyday older systems are being upgraded, and sells very cheap. But test it before buying.
