Default Hard Disk gone haywire


i hav 2 hard disks on ma comp.. 1 is sata 160gb n da other is pata 80gb...
when i start my comp it gives a message about the 160 gb hard disk saying
" disk status bad:backup and replace"
my hard disk temperature also rises quickly to around 60 degrees...
i tried formatting the drive and reinstalling windows also but it did not help.
what to do guyz as it is predicting disk failure???

i also ran chkdsk and it shows 16kb in bad sectors in one of the partitions...plz help fast...

Dude i'm not too sure but sata and pata are not supposed to be compatible on a single machine right...try boootin with only one of the drives

if you are able to reah till the windows then why not try running the disk error checking prog from the disk properties....

yeah m able to run windows and ran da disc check also but da problem persists...

seems that the bios is getting an imminent faliure reading from ur HDD's S.M.A.R.T service.

Call the service center and they will tell u the exact meaning of the message.
also use utilities like hddsentinal or others to get more info on ur HDD and SMART status.

meanwhile do as it says.. back up ur data.

do one thing......
boot through the windows CD and press r to enter the recovery console
when u logon to the windows partition, type chkdsk /r....this attempts recovery of bad sectors and is better than windows chkdsk(through my cmoputer).....it has helped me repair my hard-disk's bad sectors...
or u can dwnld sea tools from seagates web site....it will give u an iso image ....write it on cd, boot from it and run the tests...i think the sware will run for non-seagate disks too
