g800gs to 6800gt........

i saw this post somewhere which stated tat i cud convert my 6800gs(agp)....to a 68000gt by unlocking two pipelines using rivatuner,,,,,,,,,

i got riva tuner and it shows tat 2 pipelines have been masked.........

i wud luv to unmask them.....but it wud affect my gaurantee right ????

and if i do unlock it....will it damage my card.......

If you don't do it right it could damage your card, and yes, you do lose you warranty once you go through with this.

provided both are standard specs and 256mb, gs may be the way to go

Just oc your GS..its far less risky than to unlock the pipes.

unlocking isn't harmful .. if things go wrong , u'll just get a bsod ... then boot into safe mode , and uninstall the driver , and / or wile booting hold down control ...

Also .. i've heard that most of the nv40 GS's are unlockable .. so make sure u have the proper core before u do anything wrong .. google a bit for some successfull OC's ...

Do like this:
start/run nd type
REGEDIT
navigate to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak]
right click on right open space nd create a new Dword value nd give it a value 3 and name it CoolBits
close everythin nd see the nvidia control panel for new overclockin tab. Do small increments-say 5mhz. U can surelly do bout 50mhz on core nd 100mhz on mem. After that do some 3~4 mhz per increment nd try running heavy games for min 20min.

Now yaar...todays cards are biult for overclocking. Ask deathvirus_me bout the safe oc clocks of a 6800GS.
I run my 7600GT at 600/1500 from its stock 560/1400, nd no probs. U just have to make sure there is good air flow in your cab. Im using xtra 5x80mm fans in my cab as Ive oced my, GPU,CPU and also memory by big margins.
Just place an 80mm fan on four screws on the bottom of cab facing the card nd should blow air into the card. U can do much higher clocks.

Well , the nv4x cores can run pretty hot .. i've seen 6800GT's run stable at 90c , 6600GT's at around 95c .. and even seen some damm oc'ed GS's touch 80c ... so u can experiment a bit ...

But even then make sure u have good airflow in the cabinet ...

i did this.....and an extra tab named "clock frequency settings" opened up

it says core clock frequency = 400mhz

memory clock frequency = 1.1ghz

shud i just increment a bit each.......nd how much ?????

and the important thing ......will my gpu burn out or something ?????

is it reversible ???

Ya its reversible. first di some 20~30Mhz on core nd some 50~80 on mem nd play some heavy game for 20min nd see if there is any aartifacts or any hangs. If its ok u can go on with the setting or try some more oc.

hey i tried unlocking the pipelines.....

wheni unlock the pixel pipelines........the screen is full of artifacts..so i had to disable them.....but i did enable the vertex pipeline........

so now i have 12pp and 6vp......

and now i am gonna overclock it.......

Well every core is different ... my nv42 goes about 70c under max load ... even though its a 130nm manufactured one's ... older core's can go even higher ...

Y my old MX440 is just hot as a diesel engine. And even then it has no heatsink but only a fan. It can't say the pemperature-but Im sure it was above 100.

stock cooling is the cooler thats already covering the ram and core of the card ...

And , some additional fans would definitely be a good thing to do ..

Its better go for 120mm if ur cab supports it. Fix an 80mm fam on four long screws on bottom of the cab so as to face nd push air to the gcard nd in that way u can go even higher.ways beeter than an 80mm as it pushes more air with less noise, but your cab has to support it.
Jus t attach or place an 80mm fan on for long screws on the bottom of your cab so as to push air to the Gcard, u can go for much higher oc.

Your cab's rear fan grill has to be that big to even fit the 120mm fan. Not all ordinary cab's has this features.

Also the temp 1 is of CPU nd temp 2 if of mobo chipset. But there is somethin wrong with the temp3[shown as 128c]. See its mine:


Attach one or two fans like this. This could make your card oc much stable.

when i overclock to 432/1150 ati tool detects artifacts........

and ma gpu temp jst after playin games like "chronicles of riddick" comes to around 70-72.......

so...the artifactes are due to the temp ????

adding the fans will reduce the artifacts ?????

i'd really like to get the full potential of my card.....

Ya..my GPU temp after playing any heavy games for more than 2hrs is max at 55~60. Ive attached a total of 6 additional 80mm fans. Take a look at the blow fans.


Bout the FANSPEED indications, i dun get any indications like the core temp nd the temp1 seems to be same as the CPU temp displayed in ASUS utility.



Ya u can attach some 3 fans taking power from the molex connectors[even single connector as SMPS will nullify the load nd will give power according to the need of each connector as far as the PSU can hold.]

now it rose to 48.....

the core temp is still around 56 ....

your temp sensor in card may not be showing the correct temp. DO like this. Play some heavy games till u think that it has reached high temp then suddenly pull the plug[ya it would sometimes lead to some file corruption but to solve such problems these r necessary]. the plug nd see touching the top side of the card where GPU is situated below nd [make sure ur grounded or simply touch the floor with ur foot] see if its really that hot or the sensor simply says 83or 84.

the 6600GT came down from 95c under load to 80c under load ... if this is so for a 6600GT then this can work for u too .. specially if u open up the flap over the HSF combo ...

I think thes the limit for air cooling[four 80mm fans for gcard]. If the prob isn't yet solved u must try some water cooling etc. Again i doubt that ur temp sensor is workin correctly or not??

Always remember: More fans-more dust. So u must clean the heatsink nd fan of the gcard once in a while as dust will hold up quickly as that much air is thrown into it. More dust could rise the temp nd even damage the card.

with all this cooling my card is running at at oobercooled 41c at idle nd a max of 50c. and CPU at idle 36c nd at full load 54c. But my PC sounds like a generator..
