DVD Writer not writing DVDs, Please help

I have bought a Sony DVD writer recently, but it is not working properly, when i tried to burn Video DVD on DVD R with Nero 7 it tries to burn the disc for some time and displays Unspecified Error after burning to 3% ( i have noticed that the PC is not showing read buffer memorey at that time) however when i tried to burn the same with a MoserBaer DVD R/W it write the DVD properly. I am surprised to see it. Later on i tried to burn a Data DVD but still not able to burn it on DVD R but it is writing on DVD RW, however aspects like DVD reading, CD reading\ writing are working properly.
Please help me ....

Check whether the sony CD is DVD-R or DVD+R and see whether it is compatible with your DVD drive. Hope ur prob solves.

try burning at lower sppeds, this might be a compatibility issue,
